Maritime Institute as the lead partner of SUBMARINER and PartiSEAparte project invites to Seminar on “Perspectives of Aquaculture in the Baltic Sea Region – Results of the Projects AQUAFIMA, AQUABEST, PartiSEApate and SUBMARINER” in Brussels, on Tuesday, 26th November 2013

The topic of aquaculture and its future perspectives in the Baltic Sea Region is dealt with in several transnational projects at the moment. The projects have different foci, but all have in common to see aquaculture as a great potential for sustainable fisheries, food supply and regional development in the Baltic Sea Region. Furthermore, the Blue Growth initiative of the EU Commission has defined aquaculture as one focus area to foster sustainable growth and jobs in the blue economy.

Therefore, the purpose of the seminar is to:

- present main outputs of the projects AQUAFIMA (www.aquafima.eu), AQUABEST (www.aquabestproject.eu), SUBMARINER (www.submariner-project.eu) and PartiSEApate project (http://www.partiseapate.eu/)
- discuss results and recommendations with policy makers and stakeholders in the field of fisheries and aquaculture policies,
- explore perspectives of aquaculture and regional coastal fisheries management for the Baltic Sea Region in the frame of the Blue Growth initiative and European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF),
- raise awareness for the necessity to promote aquaculture throughout the EU.

The seminar presents a great opportunity for politicians, decision makers and experts on aquaculture and fisheries to exchange knowledge and discuss perspectives of aquaculture in the Baltic Sea Region.
