Success stories, future challenges” which takes place on 16th – 17th November 2011 in Gdynia / Poland. The conference offers a unique opportunity to network among those who are actively involved in sustainable development throughout the Baltic Sea Region, and to discuss future priorities for related actions and funding programmes. The conference is held under the auspices of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany, which is currently holding the chair of the CBSS Baltic 21.

The Institute is the Lead Partner of the EU international project!

For the first time our Institute took the leadership of the European Territorial Cooperation project! The SUBMARINER is the first attempt in the Baltic Sea Region towards enforcement of the economic potential of our region through sustainable uses of marine resources

Flagship project

The European Commission has approved SMOCS project, relative to Sustainable Management of Contaminated Sediments in the Baltic Sea, to be a EU flagship project. This is a great honor, while not many initiatives concerning our region become flagship projects of EU. SMOCS project now has a strong position, contributing to development of EU Strategy for Baltic Sea Region (especially on area 3: Reduce the use and impact of hazardous substaneces).
 

Future Use of the Polish Maritime Areas for Economic and Ecological Purposes

On 21st-22nd October an international conference on future uses of the Polish maritime areas took place in Gdynia. The conference aim was to create synergy between National Spatial Development Concept (NSDC), maritime policy and other policies influencing marine space in Poland, through initiation of a interdisciplinary discussion on management of the sea areas, that should be based on deepened knowledge on future sea uses.

The conference under the patronage of the Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure was organized by the Maritime Institute in Gdańsk in  co-operation with  Macroeconomic Department of the Gdańsk University and Research on Cities and Regions Department of the Szczecin University.

The conference enjoyed a great interest of stakeholders: 168 representatives of 28 sectors took part in the event! Participants represented a broad spectrum of organizations:  R&D, business including SMEs, administration (regional and local level, maritime administration) as well as NGOs.

Maritime Institute In Gdańsk is taking part in four international projects realized under the frames of the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013 (for more go to: eu.baltic.net):

  • ‘Maritime Safety - Transport and Environment in the South Baltic Sea Region - Baltic Master II’
  • 'Introducing Maritime Spatial Planning in the Baltic Sea - BaltSeaPlan'
  • 'Sub-regional risk of spill of oil and hazardous substances in the Baltic Sea - BRISK'
  • 'Efficient, Safe and Sustainable Traffic at Sea - EfficienSea'

All above-mentioned Project are part-financed from the European Regional Development Fund.
